Back with an exciting new sound, the Sugababes are releasing their 25th (you heard right) single, Get Sexy. We catch up with them to discuss their racy new image and going solo...
The new single has created a lot of debate about its direction. Was that the idea?
Keisha: We've always done that. It's so weird because its like, in some circles, there's a bout of amnesia! If you go from Overload to Freak like Me, Hole in the Head and About You Now, every track has been completely different. We pride ourselves on always coming back with something new and fresh. You know how Madonna always evolves? We wanna make sure we continue to do that. So with this one, I don't know what it is... maybe because Amelle's hair has got shorter?
This could be your 7th no. 1 single. How worried about chart positions are you?
Amelle: No. 1 would be amazing. It makes me nervous, but it's exciting
Heidi: We haven't really performed it except for gigs that we've done so that's made us a little bit more nervous because we think 'Do people know?'
Keisha: Yeah, have they heard the song?
Heidi: I am nervous, but excited.
Keisha: And we really love the song.
Your new look seems to be sexier. How do you think it has evolved since the days of One Touch? Are there any looks you regret?
Keisha: I hate the album cover for Three. I look like a man.
Heidi: I hate Angels with Dirty Faces. We look like we have dirty faces.
Amelle: Really?!
Keisha: We flew all the way to Italy to sit on a park bench. In dirty denim.
Heidi: Dirty denim with no make-up on.
Keisha: My favourite look of us was on our first sign-up and it was kind of effortless and cool, and it's what we have going on now.
Heidi: I loved the whole Push the Button stage with the beehive!
The new single is called Get Sexy. What do you think makes someone sexy, and who do you think is sexy at the moment?
Keisha: Confidence. Scarlet Johansson.
Heidi: Confidence is sexy. If you feel sexy, then I think you put it out.
Amelle: People can sense a vibe of you straight away and can't keep their eyes off you.
Keisha: You can be the most prettiest person but if you don't have the confidence then... I see girls who society might not deem to be 'beautiful' but, to me, they're absolutely stunning as they walk into a room and they hold the attention and ooze confidence.
Amelle: For men, confidence is a fine line. "Darling, you're coming to dinner with me tonight!" No, I'm not.
Amelle has just had a no.1 with Tinchy Stryder. Keisha has performed a duet with James Morrison. Can we expect any solo work from Heidi?
Heidi: We've always said that anything we fancy doing outside the band, we're open to that. The right things came along for the girls and its just not been the right thing that's come along for me yet. But definitely, if it does.
Finally, the next single is going to be About a Girl. What can we expect?
Keisha: It's produced by RedOne.
Heidi: And it's a proper party song. It definitely sticks in your head. It makes you wanna dance.
Keisha: And it's quite 'old' Sugababes and reminiscent of stuff we've done in the past, except for a bit more oomph.
Amelle: Ooooomphhh!
Get Sexy is released on 31 August.
