They sound like Girls Aloud, they look like Girls Aloud, and they even supported Girls Aloud on tour. So how did they manage not to somehow scientifically morph into an alien girlband supergroup and single-handedly take over the pop planet? Oh, hang on they did. Well, sort of.

The foxy feel-good fivesome Una Healy, Mollie King, Frankie Sandford, Vanessa White and Rochelle Wiseman have only been around five minutes in pop world. Despite this, they've already clocked up four top five singles: If This Is Love, Up, Issues, Just Can't Get Enough (the Comic Relief song where they do the cleaning in their underwear, as you do) and the lower-charting Work.

Not bad at all ladies, but then you have to consider that Vanessa and Rochelle were once members of weenie-teen band S Club 8 so there is some pop pedigree going on here. Debut album, 2008's Chasing Lights was a promising start with some delicious morsels of electronic, high-quality pop froth and pure pop silliness aplenty.

The as yet unnamed new album will be out soon, so the verdict is out on whether this lot will be Up and away. Either way, we think Girls Aloud might need to watch their backs.
