Britney Jean Spears has been crowned pop princess ever since her eyebrow-raising debut single Hit Me Baby, One More Time. From school uniforms to diamond encrusted body stockings, Britney has had an outfit for every pop hit since 1998.
Britney has a back catalogue popstars would kill for. No 1s like Toxic, Oops! and Everytime have stood the test of time while her pop rivals have come and gone.
The singer's personal life began to overshadow her many awards and successes in 2003. After her famous split with sweetheart Justin Timberlake, Britney's behaviour became ever more erratic and divorce, motherhood, and public meltdowns dominated the headlines. In 2008, Spears's hospitalizations caused her to be placed under a conservatorship and she became the paparazzi's go-to girl for quick tabloid gossip.
The release of the Circus album turned things around and Britney Womanizer-Woman-Woman-Womanizer-ed her way back up the charts and onto the pop throne again. Since then, we've had two world tours and her most critically-acclaimed album yet, Femme Fatale. Rolling Stone commented that it "may be Britney's best album; certainly it's her strangest", The Observer said that Britney had "turned out the “fierce dance record” she promised", and NME viewed it as her "best work," brimming "with the laidback confidence of someone who knows she's back on top."
In 2011, Britney earned her fifth US No.1 as the featured artist on the remix of Rihanna's S&M, and her sixth came in early 2013 with Scream & Shout with will.i.am.
Adding to her CV, Spears also served as a judge during the second season of the US version of The X Factor.
With another album on the way, we're excited to see what Britney gets up to in 2013...
