Black Eyed Peas frontman turned music mogul

Mon 30 Jan 2012

When Where Is The Love went to No 1 back in 2002, few would have predicted that will.i.am would be a music heavyweight over ten years later.
Yet, since then, he's been behind some of the biggest selling singles in the world. 2009's I Gotta Feeling broke records and was downloaded over 7 million times in the US. The Black Eyed Peas also had 6 UK No 1 singles from their last two albums, The E.N.D and The Beginning.
The Black Eyed Peas have taken a 'vacation' over the past few years and though Will said they will be recording a seventh studio album in 2013, it is yet to be made.
Will.i.am took the Peas' hiatus as an opportunity to record a solo album. In November 2011, Will premiered the album's official lead single, T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever), a collaboration with Jennifer Lopez and Mick Jagger. The track was released in February 2012 and peaked at No 3 in the UK charts. Other singles followed, but without an album. After a number of delays, #willpower, was released in April 2013.
Will also worked on the late Michael Jackson's album and did hook up with Cheryl for their collaboration on her single, Heartbreaker. This spawned lasting relationship, with the producer becoming Chezza's good friend and manager. It's with America's sweetheart Britney Spears, however, that Will has had one of his biggest hits to date, Scream & Shout, which went to No 1 in eight countries in 2013.
His 2013 album, #willpower, also produced hits #thatPOWER (ft. Justin Bieber), Fall Down (ft. Miley Cyrus), Bang Bang (which also featured on The Great Gatsby movie soundtrack), Feelin' Myself (ft. Miley Cyrus, French Montana, Wiz Khalifa and DJ Mustard) and It's My Birthday (ft. Cody Wise).
Will's list of production credits is even longer than his list of singles! Most recently he's worked with Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga and his The Voice 2013 runner-up, Leah McFall.
Beyond music, will.i.am has tried his hand at acting, appearing in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. However, audiences in the UK know and love him for his cheeky sense of humour and creative use of words on The Voice UK. With his constant "dope" bombs and one-liners like: “I don’t play tactics because I’m like tic tacs… I’m always fresh.”, he's become a star coach and returns to his swivel chair in 2015.
Will has his fingers in multiple pies. In August 2012, he made history by being the first artist to stream a song from the surface of Mars and in October 2014 he designed the NX Lexus. He also has his own non-profit organisation, i.am angel, through which he's determined to find the new Bill Gates.
With a possible Black Eyed Peas return, the promise of new music, plus his own Smart watch and iphone accessories in the works, will.i.am certainly knows how to keep himself busy.
We're not sure what exactly to expect from Will in the future, but one thing we are sure of, it's going to be very futuristic!
