When Where is the Love went to No 1 back in 2002, few would have predicted that will.i.am would be a music heavyweight ten years later.
Yet, since then, he's been behind some of the biggest selling singles in the world. 2009's I Gotta Feeling broke records and was downloaded over 7 million times in the US. The Black Eyed Peas also had 6 UK No 1 singles from their last two albums, The E.N.D and The Beginning.
The Black Eyed Peas have taken a 'vacation' over the past couple of years, however Will has said they will be recording a seventh studio album in 2013. However, with the announcement of Fergie's pregnancy, the group may have a new fifth member present at their recording sessions.
Will.i.am took the Peas' hiatus as an opportunity to record a solo album. In November 2011, Will premiered the album's official lead single, T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever), a collaboration with Jennifer Lopez and Mick Jagger. The track was released in February 2012 and peaked at No 3 in the UK charts. Other singles followed, but no album. After a number of delays, #willpower, is now scheduled for an April 2013 release.
Sadly for Will, his work on the late Michael Jackson's album will never be released, but he did hook up with Cheryl Cole for their collaboration on her single, Heartbreaker. This spawned lasting relationship, with the producer becoming Chezza's good friend and manager. It's with America's sweetheart Britney Spears, however, that Will has had one of his biggest hits to date. Scream & Shout went to No 1 in eight countries.
Beyond music, will.i.am has tried his hand at acting - he starred in X-Men Origins: Wolverine - but audiences in the UK know and love him for his cheeky sense of humour and creative use of words on The Voice UK. With his constant "dopes" bombs and one-liners like: “I don’t play tactics because I’m like tic tacs… I’m always fresh.”, he's earned himself a second run on the programme for 2013.
