  • Dance duo Chase & Status an amazingly eclectic album last year, featuring guest vocals from the likes of BRITs winners Plan B, Tinie Tempah and Cee Lo Green to name a few. They are the only group on the nominations list not to have previously won the award.

  • Adele, Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Florence + The Machine and PJ Harvey are all up for the MasterCard British Album of the Year, the biggest award of the evening. Though Ed Sheeran gets the nod for his debut album, Coldplay have won this award three times in the past.

  • Scottish singer-songwriter Emeli Sande has already been announced as the recipient of this year's Critics Choice award, which recognises up-and-coming talent. She was presented with her Brit by Jessie J at Thursday's nominations launch event at London's Savoy Hotel.

  • The nominations for British Female Solo Artist see Jessie J, Florence and The Machine and Adele go head to head, all of whom are previous winners of the BRITs Critics’ Choice award. Jessie J is up for three awards - Best Female, Breakthrough Act and Best Single for her hit Price Tag.
