We take a look at the best doggy actors of the year
Yes, Zac Efron is adorable. But if we're being completely honest, most of us at 4Music would rather spend an afternoon in the park with Hummer - the sweet little Pomeranian who stars alongside Charlize Theron in the film Young Adult. Well, maybe it's a tie.
We love dogs as much as we love movies, so imagine our delight when the nominations were revealed this week for The Golden Collar Awards, which celebrate the best dog performances of the year in film and television.
There's some pretty impressive canine performances this year. So without further adieu, let's take a look at the nominees for Best Dog in a Theatrical Film.
Hummer as Dolce - Young Adult
Hummer is an adorable 4-year-old Pomeranian who made his debut in Young Adult after being discovered by the film's producer on the sidewalk in Manhattan. Watch the hilarious clip in the trailer below as Charlize Theron attempts to smuggle Dolce into a hotel in her handbag.
Young Adult opens 3 February 2012
Cosmo as Arthur - Beginners
Acclaimed actors Ewan McGregor and Christopher Plummer star in Beginners, but it's adorable dog Cosmo that really steals the show. Ewan McGregor was so touched by his experience working with the canine actor, he went out and adopted a dog after shooting the film! Bless.
Beginners is out on DVD now
Uggie as Queenie in Water For Dogs and The Dog in The Artist
Uggie is one talented Jack Russell Terrier. So much so, he was nominated for two different roles! Firstly, for his role as Queenie in Water For Dogs, starring Twilight hearthrob Robert Pattinson, and secondly for his role as The Dog in the celebrated silent film, The Artist. Watch Uggie proving his many (adorable) talents below on The Ellen Show.
The Artist is in cinemas now and Water For Elephants is available now on DVD
Denver as Skeletor - 50/50
50/50 stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen and Twilight's Anna Kendrick in one of the first cancer comedies ever. In the film, Adam (Gordon-Levitt) is presented with greyhound Skeletor as an alternative therapy to help him with his recovery. There are few things a cute dog can't help with, we reckon.
50/50 is out on DVD 26 March 2012
Winners of the 2012 Golden Collar Awards will be presented in a dog-friendly hotel in Los Angeles on 13 February 2012.
