news: Friday Film Fest

Friday Film Fest

The week in film...

It's been a big week for film, as nominations were announced for The 84th Academy Awards. George Clooney must be one happy chappy after his latest film, The Descendants, picked up five nominations. Other films to get the nod include Bridesmaids, The Help, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and The Artist.

In other film news, Russell Brand was finally getting press for his career this week, instead of just his much-publicised divorce from Katy Perry. It was announced this week he's set to star in an upcoming film entitled The Hauntrepreneur, which allegedly follows a family who hire a creepy man to build them a haunted house. Why, you ask? To help them get settled in a new town. Yes, it makes no sense to us either.

And finally, Daniel Radcliffe hit the London Red Carpet this week for the premiere of his spooky new film, The Woman In Black. We had a chat with him about being typecast as Harry Potter, and he gave us some helpful advice on what to do with your mouth when you're being dipped in goo. Watch the rest of the interview here

Now, let's take a look at what's hitting cinemas this week...

The Descendants

George Clooney stars in Alexander Payne's latest effort, The Descendants, which follows a father struggling to keep it together after his unfaithful wife falls into a coma. Expect laughter, tears and an amply-warmed heart.

A Monster In Paris

A Monster In Paris follows a merry cast of weird and wonderful characters, hot on the trail of a mysterious monster wandering the streets of the French capital. It just so happens, however, the monster is actually a giant flea with an unstoppable musical talent. But of course!

The Grey

Liam Neeson stars in this high-octane thriller about a plane crash in the heart of the icy Alaskan wilderness. The survivors must brave the elements and fend off legions of hungry wolves to make it to safety. Sounds like a relaxing watch!

Like Crazy

There's been a lot of celebrity break-ups of late - from Katy and Russell and Tulisa and Fazer to Ellie Goulding and Greg James. January can be a hard month for the heart, so why not avoid some real-life heartbreak and instead hit the cinema for some on-screen romantic trauma. Like Crazy stars Felicity Jones (Chalet Girl) and Anton Yelchin in a modern tale about about good love gone bad, then gone good, then gone bad again.

Tissues now please!
