Friday Film Fest

This week in film fest: Bel Ami, John Carter and The Raven...

Fear not Robert Pattinson fans! You may have to wait until November for the next installment of the Twilight Saga, but your homeboy RPattz is back in cinemas this weekend in the romantic period thriller Bel Ami.

If RPattz romancing several generations of Parisian ladies sounds like a turn-off, there's plenty more to grab your attention: from the breath-taking special effects of John Carter to the stylish 'thrills' of The Raven.

Let's take a closer look at this week's new openings...

Bel Ami

The ladies love Robert Pattinson, even in 19th-century Paris. In Bel Ami, RPattz plays a penniless soldier who rises to prominence in Parisian high society by manipulating the city's ladyfolk. He also takes his shirt off. Christina Ricci, Kristin Scott Thomas and Uma Thermon play his lovers and victims.

Note, the trailer below may not be suitable for younger viewers.

Bel Ami is out now.

John Carter

John Carter is one of the biggest and boldest visual journeys to hit cinemas so far this year. When a (beefy) war veteran, played by Taylor Kitsch, finds himself on a planet inhabited by giant Barbarians, he meets a beautiful princess who is in need of his help. And a gentleman never says no to a lady in need.

John Carter is out now.

The Raven

The Raven is a costume thriller starring John Cusack as legendary horror writer Edgar Allen Poe. When a deranged murderer starts terrorising Baltimore with murders inspired by Poe's stories, the writer teams up with a young detective to end the mayhem. However ambitious the costumes and set design may be, you may find John Carter a safer bet if you're looking for genuine thrills at the box office this weekend.

The Raven is out now.

Enjoy the show!
