4Music catches up with Jason Derulo

Since we last caught up with Jason Derulo, he has gone on to achieve chart success on both sides of the Atlantic. His single Whatcha Say has gone three times platinum and his debut album has gone gold in the UK. Jason tells us how he's finding the famous life with crazy fans and touring the world.

Q: Having just released your single Ridin' Solo in the UK, you have now had three singles in the Top 3. That's an impressive run for a new artist...

A: I'm blessed. I've been working towards this my whole life. It's a blessing that people are liking the material that I'm putting out.

Q: How do you think Ridin Solo compares to your previous singles?

A: I think Ridin' Solo is my most important single to date. Topic-wise, it's talking about loving yourself and there hasnt been a song talking about self-empowerment and leaning on your own shoulders.

Q: Are you going to be releasing any more singles from the album?

A: Absolutely. Every single should be a reinvention. With the next single, you'll see a totally different side of me. The song is called What If. It's live-sounding with live drums and a piano. It's a ballad.

Q: Your album also features the track The Sky's The Limit, which sounds very Flashdance.

A: It's not actually a sample but it's a very close interpolation of it. My producer brought it to me and I was all for it. I loved it.

Q: Are you pleased with the way your album has been received?

A: Absolutely. The support has been great and Im looking forward to build and grow.

Q: Since Whatcha Say, your profile has risen and now you get a lot of attention from fans. Is it true you have a scar from one of them?

A: I call it my love scar. I was coming around my tour bus and I saw a young lady standing there. All of a sudden, she starts running towards me and starts pulling at my clothes. Then these other girls joined in, trying to get this shirt off me.

Q: It must have been a good shirt.

A: Yeah, I guess they liked the shirt!

Q: You're now about to tour Australia and then do some dates in the UK. What next?

A: Yeah, I've just got off the tour with Gaga and now I'm looking forward to doing my own thing. I just want to continue on the same path, to be honest with you. I'm not really interested in awards and stuff like that. I just want to continue to share my music with the world.
