Her retro sound having already scored her two No.1 singles, Pixie Lott is slowing things down with her third release, the big ballad Cry Me Out. We catch up with the Mama Do singer to talk fame, Fendi and embarrassing moments…
You’ve just been nominated for three MTV awards, including Best New Act. How does that feel? Are you crossing your fingers?
I am crossing my fingers. I feel very lucky to be in the categories so I’m happy anywhere, but obviously I’m crossing my fingers. It would be nice to win one award.
Or maybe all three?
That would be amazing! A bit greedy!
The new single is Cry Me Out. You’ve had two No.1’s. Are you hoping for a hat trick?
I’m not expecting a third No.1. It’s my favourite single out of the three, I think it’s the strongest, but all I want it to do is help sell the album. I just want people to buy that, ideally!
You’ve toured with The Saturdays and helped form the one-off group Young Soul Rebels for the War Child charity single. Did you ever think about joining a band?
I wouldn’t have done that, I don’t think. I’ve always been more about being a solo artist. Obviously I’d love to tour and be with my girlfriends everywhere, but I think having more control of things is better.
You’re also a song-writer and you penned the track You Broke My Heart, which is on Alexandra Burke’s album. Do you like how the song has turned out?
I love fashion. I’ve got a big passion for fashion. I got to
see the Fendi collection and they gave me a couple of bits. I’m using the bag
today actually! I know Katy Perry turned up but she came after my performance,
which sucked. But Prince was there and I met Sean Lennon, John Lennon’s son. It
was a really weird crowd and it was in a club and I did a little acoustic set,
which was maybe a little out of context but I absolutely loved it. It was
wicked.
I’ve never really had that moment where I’ve thought, “Hey,
I’m famous!” I still don’t think I am now, really. But the moment that was
surreal was my album launch and my headline show in
It was my friend’s birthday and we came out of a nightclub and we were blinded by paparazzi. All you can see is this light. I headed for the car and I couldn’t see anything and so I just ran into the door, and I rebounded off it. Smooth move, Pix! I’ve got a bruise on my thigh now, unfortunately.
You have been one of the big female acts this year. Do you think we’ll be seeing more male talent emerge next year?
I think it would be nice. I think there should be some new
ones. My favourite
