Kelly Clarkson joins The Voice

American Idol winner to be mentor

She was the first winner of American Idol - and remains the best-selling artist from the show - and now Kelly Clarkson is preparing to dish out her wisdom. To a rival TV show.

The Post reports that Kelly has made the controversial decision to appear as a mentor on hit US show The Voice and provide guidance to contestants.

In an interview last year, Kelly complimented The Voice's format. “The thing I love about The Voice is that they’re more mentors - they’re not judges,” she said. “I would never really want to be a judge, just because I don’t want to break people’s hearts.

Gossip and news

“I so want to audition for The Voice and see if I can get the chairs to turn around!”

The decision for Kelly to appear on the show will raise eyebrows, especially as both programmes will go head-to-head later this year in a ratings war.

American Idol catapulted Kelly Clarkson to fame in 2002. She has since gone on to win two Grammy awards, her single Because of You is the best-selling single by an Idol contestant worldwide, and she has had seven UK Top 10 hits.
