Marcus Collins to release shock cover of The White Stripes

X Factor runner-up reveals debut single will be surprise cover of Seven Nation Army

Marcus Collins will release a cover of The White Stripes' Seven Nation Army as his debut single.

The Liverpudlian, who is best known for his retro spin on pop songs during the TV talent show, explained his unlikely choice of single.

Speaking to The Sun on why he chose to cover the American rock group's classic: "I'm a huge fan of the original Seven Nation Army and I hope people like my take on it. I'm so happy to be releasing my debut album and can't wait for everyone to hear it."

And he recently said: "The music is really coming together. I've found my niche now, I've found exactly what it is that I want to do and it's looking good."

He continued: "I'm really excited about doing it all and I feel I've got a little bit more time and little bit more freedom to really concentrate and focus on what it is that I want to bring out."

The Sun reports that Collins' cover of Seven Nation Army will sound like Bruno Mars

Music news!

Marcus has listed Beyonce as one of his musical inspirations, and has previously sang covers of Stevie Wonder's Lately and Outkast's Hey Ya.

Marcus will be releasing the single on March 4 and his debut album - which is being executive produced by his X Factor mentor Gary Barlow - on March 12.

He won't be the first X Factor star to release a cover. Matt Cardle released When We Collide, a version of Biffy Clyro's song Many Of Horror, when he won in 2010, while Alexandra Burke sang Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah back in 2008. Leona Lewis has covered Snow Patrol's Run and Hurt by Nine Inch Nails. Most recently, Little Mix went to No 1 with Cannonball, a cover of Damian Rice's classic. American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson even did a cover of Seven Nation Army in a recent UK performance.
