Can he pull a cover of the rock classic off?
No-one was surprised when Marcus Collins announced he was embarking on a solo career, but there were raised eyebrows at how quickly he would be hitting the charts, and even more surprise at his choice of single.
Marcus is making his debut as a recording artist with a cover of White Stripes' Seven Nation Army. Having seen the X Factor runner-up more at home on the show with soul classics like Higher and Higher, it's an unusual choice of song and we were eager to hear Collins' take on the track.
So, what's it like?
It appears Marcus has taken his lead from Grenade singer Bruno Mars on his musical direction. It's hardly a bad career choice - Bruno has had three No 1s and a chart-topping album, afterall.
Seven Nation Army sees Marcus showcase his vocals with the support of the original's classic bass line and the addition of trumpets for a retro twist.
It's a brave move and interesting that Marcus should launch his career with another cover version, after finally getting to be an artist in his own right. But was it the right move?
