Simon Cowell believes she has "star power"

With Britney Spears reportedly having turned down a $10 million offer to appear on the US X Factor as a judge, it's rumoured that the singer is now close to signing a $15 million deal.

Simon has persevered with Britney as he believes she has "star power" and with her experience of juggling a family and career, the X Factor will be a "walk in the park" for her.

In an interview with radio DJ Billy Bush a few months back he said: "I'm fascinated by Britney. The fact that she's one of the most talked about - not just pop stars but people - in the world today, means that you've got this star power.

"This girl has resilience. I would think that if she's managed to sustain a family, a career, which is tough, (X Factor would be) a walk in the park. I would be fascinated to hear what she has to say. She's still hot, she's still having hit records and she's still controversial. There's a reason for that."

And it seems that money isn't the top priority for Simon. He's more concerned about ratings and commitment, while Britney would like the choice of whether to stay on for a second year or not.

A source told HollywoodLife: "Money is not an issue for the show. As of now, they are looking to pay her $12-15 million for the first season, with a drastic price hike for a second year based on ratings performance.

"Simon Cowell wants at least a two-year commitment and Britney wants an out clause if she doesn't want to continue after one year of service."

With Britney reportedly joining Simon and music exec L.A. Reid on the panel, who do you think will make the grade as the fourth judge?
