The star chats to 4Music at the Google+ Hangout

John Legend cited Kanye West and Lauryn Hill as two of his greatest influences today at the Google+ Hangout.

Along with fans, competition winners and students from The BRIT School, 4Music was there to talk to John about his career, music and even enjoy an acapella performance from the international star.

When asked about who has influenced his music the Ordinary People singer replied that Lauryn Hill and Kanye West were the two artists that have had the greatest impact on him.

Talking about Lauryn Hill, whom he worked with when he was only 18, John said, "one thing she did tell me was to keep it simple."

However it was Kanye West who really changed the way he thought about music.

"I think I learnt the most probably from working with Kanye because we spent so much time working together with each other other the years and he's such a creative genius and one of the most important creative people of our generation," John said.

Wow, high praise indeed.
