The Wanted - Album Review

Here's our review of The Wanted's self-titled debut album...

Who?

Have you been living in a cave? Max, Nathan, Siva, Tom and Jay are the UK's hottest new boyband. They've already scored a massive No.1 single with All Time Low and now they're preparing to launch an all-out assault on the charts with their self-titled debut album. Bring it on!

What's it like?

The complete opposite of what we're using to hearing from boybands. Ok, so there's a few 'lighters in the air' moments, but for the most part it's up-tempo, catchy and, dare I say it, credible pop music that you shouldn't feel ashamed for liking.

Best bits?

Lose My Mind, with its Kings Of Leon-esque 'ohhh-ohhh' bits, sounds destined to become a hit single, while Say It On The Radio has an irresistible, anthemic quality. Another stand-out is their self-penned track Behind Bars, complete with dramatic string arrangements and one epic chorus!

Worst bits?

Hi And Low sees the boys channel Coldplay and, while it features a stunning vocal from Jay, it's a little on the dreary side. Let's Get Ugly, with its unmistakeable sample from The Good The Bad And The Ugly, is a bit cheesy, although it would lend itself well to a tour performance (Max in a cowboy hat - nice!).

Our verdict?

Overall the boys have proved that they've got what it takes to take on the likes of JLS, although I reckon they should stick to the more danceable numbers, as this is clearly where their strengths lie.
