Bruno Mars - Doo-Wops and Hooligans

The buzz surrounding Bruno Mars has been building

The buzz surrounding Bruno Mars has been building for quite some time now. He's penned tracks for the likes of Flo Rida, Sugababes and Cee-Lo Green, guested on huge hits by Travie McCoy and B.o.B, scored two solo UK No.1s and been nominated for a BRIT, all before releasing his debut album. Impressive stuff.

What's it like?

A mixture of soul, pop, reggae and funk, Doo Wops & Hooligans is a confident debut which demonstrates Bruno's versatility as an artist. Featuring his No.1 singles Just The Way You Are and Grenade, as well as guest spots from Damien Marley, Cee Lo Green and B.o.B, the album looks destined to make him a global megastar.

Best bits?

With its thumping drum beat and impassioned vocals, current No.1 hit Grenade is by far the stand-out track here, but the album is literally stuffed full of potential hits. The seductive Our First Time, the furious funk of Runaway Baby and The Lazy Song, with its laidback acoustic vibe, are all winners in our book.

Worst bits?

While there's no major embarrassments, the stripped-back production and simplistic lyrics of Count On Me fail to measure up to the very high standard that Bruno sets for himself on the rest of the album.

A masterclass in great songwriting, it's only January but don't be surprised if you see this album featuring in quite a few 'Best Of 2011' lists. Superb.
