Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj looks set to launch her very own fashion collection this year. With her eccentric style, love of colour and Barbie doll muse, we’re sure it will look amazing on the catwalk! We’ll reserve judgement though before we make space in our wardrobe… 

She’s by no means the first popstar to turn their hand to the sewing machine and make a fashion splash.

Victoria Beckham

When she was a Spice Girl, people said she couldn’t sing. So when her solo career flopped and Victoria set her sights on fashion, the hopes weren’t high. Vic has got the last laugh though.

In 2008, Victoria Beckham launched her first fashion collection. The structured, chic dresses won a legion of fans – well, those who could afford them – and since then Victoria’s clothing has been worn by a host of celebrities, including Eva Longoria, Katy Perry and Kim Kardashian.

2012 will see the unveiling of a brand new range, Victoria by Victoria Beckham, which is girlier and a little easier on the purse. 

Justin Bieber

In 2010, Justin Bieber launched a unisex fragrance called My World. Instead of coming in a bottle though, it was infused into dog tags and wristbands. What a visionary. 

Justin has also released limited edition glasses to commemorate the release of his 3D Never Say Never film.

The Baby singer has also designed a line of nail varnishes in shades such as One Less Lonely Glitter (lavender), Prized Possession Purple (grape), Give Me The First Dance (silver), and Step 2 the Beat of My Heart (heart-shaped glitter). 

Cheryl Cole

With her time on X Factor being as much a fashion show as a talent show, battling out with Dannii in the design stakes each week, Cheryl Cole added fashionista to her CV. 

Cheryl’s big hair has been attributed to the sales of hairspray reaching a record £173 million and her style has been acclaimed and copied. More recently though she has suffered a few fashion faux pas'. 

Her first appearance for her ill-fated turn on US X Factor was savaged by fashion critics: back-combed hair, orange top, turquoise belt and huge purple flares were so not a good look. Cheryl's thoughts on the criticism? Speaking to the Telegraph: "I couldn't care less what anyone says about the way I look."

Cheryl, who has admitted to having a shoe obsession, has now launched her own range of footwear. The collection got off to a shaky start with complaints of faulty stitching and dodgy heels, however these issues have now been resolved and we're loving her 'girly' style.

Kanye West

Kanye West has been dabbling in fashion for some time, but has had limited success, despite his star power.

In 2009, his Pastelle collection folded. Last year, his debut at Paris Fashion Week was savaged by critics. The Times said: “Kanye West's fashion debut was like being subjected to an hour long MRI scan - but not as much fun.” 

Fashion bloggers made barbed comments such as "Good thing Kanye has a day job," and "the only thing more painful than witnessing the dress was watching the model pitch down the runway in shoes so ill-fitting that her spike heels were bending at angles.” Ouch.

Kanye responded with: "This is my first collection. Please be easy. Please give me a chance to grow."

It appears Kanye is serious about fashion though. He has collaborated with Louis Vuitton, undertook an internship at Fendi, and made plans to move to London to make his collections a success. 

Katy Perry

Known for her pop spin on 50s fashion and love of kitsch, Katy Perry first entered the world of fashion with a fragrance: Purr.

Showing that the best thing for a broken heart is retail therapy, Katy launched her own range of fake eyelashes in the aftermath of her split from Russell Brand.  She has also released her own shades of nail varnish in celebration of her successful Teenage Dream album. Colours include Last Friday Night, Not Like the Movies, and The One That Got Away.

There are also rumours of a shoe collection, so watch out for Katy putting her own take on the high heel and giving Manolo a run for his money. 

Kylie Minogue

Kylie said at the time that she hoped many of her customers will be men who were previously too shy to buy underwear for their partners. "It's really daunting walking into a lingerie department and, hopefully, boyfriends and husbands can now feel a little bit safer about choosing something their partner will like," she said.

Since then, Kylie has branched out into the world of celeb perfumes, with Kylie Darling launched in 2006. 

The less said about her foray in sequinned duvet covers the better though… 

Justin Timberlake

Speaking to Yahoo at the time, Justin Timberlake said he was inspired by “real, American fashion.” 

The show’s official blurb stated that the collection “blended with sharp tailoring, featuring strong, confident shoulders and slimming silhouettes, the collection expresses a bold direction for New America."

Since then, Justin has turned his attention to his acting career. Will he ever return to fashion - or music? 

Lily Allen

Last year, Lily Allen launched a fashion collection inspired by the boutique. Called Treasure Chest, and spanning the decades, it saw 70s jumpsuits, 30s tea dresses, and 50s A-line frocks. 

Basing the collection on a fictional persona Lily said the inspiration was as "a time-traveling fashionista who’s inviting you to explore her wardrobe. It’s a great opportunity to play with the character."

Madonna

In 2007, Madonna collaborated with H&M for her own collection, inspired by what she and her Confession Tour dancers like to wear. Designs included a spin on Madge’s trademark tracksuits, as well as more sophisticated kimono dresses and trench coats. 

She might now prefer thigh-high boots and fishnets but, more recently, Madonna teamed up with her daughter Lourdes to create a junior clothing range, Material Girl, originally modelled by Kelly Osbourne.

Taio Cruz

His sunglasses have been worn by a number of celebrities. Cruz stated: "There's a load of US celebrities that are all rocking the sunglasses already – Kid Cudi, Justin Timberlake, Kanye West... Then in the UK we have The Saturdays, JLS, Daniel Merriweather – who've all been twittering and writing on their blogs how much they love them.”

Since then, Taio has turned his attention to branching out into jeans, t-shirts, and a cheaper collection. He explained: “Because with Rokstarr in itself being so expensive, a lot of the kids out there who want to buy Rokstarr things can't. So we're bringing in stuff that's a little bit more High Street and more affordable”. 

Gwen Stefani

No Doubt’s Gwen Stefani launched her fashion range  L.A.M.B in 2003, naming it after her solo album Love Angel Music Baby. Inspired by Japanese and Jamaican style, L.A.M.B was received with critical acclaim at New York Fashion Week in 2005. It now makes $90 million a year and is sold in 275 stores.

The collection now includes everything from stilettos and watches to handbags and perfume. It has also been referenced in her music, including the single Wind It Up. 

Gwen describes the range as as "a little Sound of Music, some Orange County chola girl, some Rasta, and a bit of The Great Gatsby."
