If you want
to see some prime British talent then here’s an example – well, not just an
UK’s mouthiest musician has had a great year – 12 months ago he was bathing in
the glory of the fourth hit video from his Playing In The Sun album ‘Midnight
Run’, with a video shot in Iceland – that’s the country not the supermarket.
took some time out in Australia while he worked on his new album, but
was back with a bang in July, hooking up with dance-floor god Calvin Harris for
the massive tune ‘We’ll Be Coming Back’. The video featured Example and Calvin
having a car chase through the Hollywood Hills… honestly, those boys!
he slam dunked us with the amazingly catchy Say Nothing, the first track from
his Evolution Of Man album, and it did not disappoint!
he was getting rave reviews for his presenting skills when he co-hosted hit TV
show The Xtra Factor – a job for which he was handpicked by Mr Simon Cowell
was no time to rest after X Factor ended – he was straight to work on the video
for his next single ‘Oh My Goodness’, which featured him racing through a
shopping centre in pursuit of the girl of his dreams – the crazy romantic fool!
highlights in Olly’s year included supporting One Direction on their American
tour, modelling for Robbie William’s clothing line and publishing his
autobiography – what a multi-tasker!
being Chris Brown, he hit the headlines a few times in 2012 – there was an
alleged bust up with Drake in a New York bar, and constant speculation as to
the current status of his relationship with Rihanna. But controversies didn’t
stop him churning out the tunes.
In April he
scored his first ever UK number one with dance floor smash ‘Turn Up The Music’
– he even got dressed up all smart for the video and everything. It’s not often
you see this boy in a suit!
Next came a
team-up with David Guetta and Lil Wayne, ‘I Can Only Imagine’, which came with a
super-cool sci-fi flavoured video, and then came the number 2 smash ‘Don’t Wake
last year Conor Maynard was just a Brighton Boy with a big voice, who’d made a name for
himself singing cover versions on You Tube. Now he’s one of the biggest names
on the British music scene with a number one debut album under his belt and
3 hit singles.
kicked off in March for Conor when he unleashed his first single on the world…
‘Can’t Say No’. And it seemed that you guys couldn’t say no to Conor, sending
his single all the way to number 2!
that up with a UK tour and another smash hit ‘Vegas Girl’. And now he’s proved
that he’s bigtime enough to hang out with US superstars by releasing a hook up
Ed Sheeran started
off the year in the charts with ‘Lego House’, but he only made a small
appearance in the video. Instead he gave the starring role to Harry Potter
star, and fellow celebrity ginger, Rupert Grint. You know you’ve made it when
you can get a movie star to appear in your video while you put your feet up!
we saw him getting tipsy with a Tabby cat in the hilarious video for Drunk, and
in June the poor fella spent the night in a hospital waiting room in the video
for ‘Small Bump’ – a whopping fifth hit from his mega selling debut album.
2012 was also
the year that Ed proved how well connected he was - he had several red hot
hook-ups, providing vocals for the likes of Rizzle Kicks, Devlin and Wretch 32.
Flo Rida rounded
up 2011 with top 3 smash ‘Good Feeling’, a video that showed him jogging his
way across Europe, like our very own pop personal trainer. He then kicked off
the year flying high in the chart with Wild One – and a video that featured him
jumping out of a plane in Dubai– what a dare devil!
parachuted back in to the chart again in June with a number 2 smash Whistle,
where he spent the video shoot having fun on a Mexican beach full of beautiful
half naked models. Well, to be fair, Flo doesn’t wear much in his videos
over the last 12 months this super producer has most definitely stepped out of
the studio and into the spotlight, becoming a fully-fledged popstar in his own
teamed up with Tinie Tempah for the massive, speaker shaking Earthquake, then
he served up a sci-fi spectacular with the out of this world ‘Last Time’ – it
had big blue aliens in it and everything!
In May he
gave us one of the most colourful videos of the year for the ever-so-catchy
Express Yourself, before he surprised us all by rocking out with guitars for
his latest track ‘Treatment’
We always knew
that Ne-Yo had some badass moves, but 2012 was the year that he really hit
the dancefloor hard!
In April he
formed a dream team with UK dance legend Calvin Harris for monster club smash
Let Go. The song was a massive hit – but Ne-Yo wasn’t finished releasing speaker-shaking
club smashes yet, oh no.
it was time for NeYo to unleash his fifth studio album on the world, and the
first single from it was another stick of dancefloor dynamite ‘Let Me Love You’
– add to that a team up with fellow Video Honours Best Boy nominee Connor
Maynard, for their track ‘Turn Around’, and it’s fair to say that 2012 was
another top-notch year for this US star.
It’s been an
amazing 12 months for Wil.I.Am… The year he finally stepped out from the shadow
of his Black Eyed Peas bandmates and proved himself as a popstar in his own
off 2011 by teaming up with Jennifer Lopez for their mega smash T.H.E., a hit
that provided one of the lyrics of the year – You Can Go Hard, or You Can Go
to March and Will was getting to grips with a NEW role – as judge of hit TV
talent show The Voice alongside Jessie J, singing Legend Tom Jones and Danny
from The Script. The nation took Will.I.AM and his crazy catchphrases to their
Add to that
a number one hit with ‘This Is Love’ and a team up with his fellow Voice judge
Danny’s band The Script, and it’s clear to see that this Black Eyed Pea definitely
popped in 2012!
